Christmas is special – and although it is quite normal for us who live in this part of the world it may be something unknown for the students coming from other parts of the universe. The ACCESS students, who participate in the international master course Advanced Computational and Civil Engineering Structural Studies met for a Christmas Party last friday. The place is one with tradition: An old villa, built in 1888. A huge Christmas tree was placed in the courtyard, Stollen (a special Christmas Cake of the region) and tea was served, Christmas tunes playing…
Nearly a century ago the villa was a spiritual and cultural center of Dresden. The avant-garde of Dresden based artists met here, among them Paul Klee, Walter Gropius, Otto Dix, Conrad Felix Müller, Lasar Segall, Oskar Kokoschka, Emil Nolde and the dancers Mary Wigman and Gret Palucca. Now the villa is home of the Institute of Construction Materials – but it continues to be a friendly home for social events!

Christmas at TU Dresden is colourful
The TU Dresden again celebrates the International Christmas Party on the 3rd of December 2010 in Hörsaalzentrum on Bergstasse 64. The foyer of the Hörsaalzentrum will turn into a colourful and varied Christmas Market thanks to Santa’s little helpers from around the globe at 7 pm. While trumpets sound through the halls, one or the other small Christmas present or souvenir is waiting to be picked up and tempting exotic food from all around the world, for example from Turkey, Indonesia, Vietnam or Nigeria to be tasted.
Prof. Ursula Schaefer, Vice-Rector for Academic and International Affairs, inaugurates the international cultural programme at 8 p.m. in the main auditorium. Not only will the dance of lights by Thea Maas and the wonderful pantomimic cabaret from the theatre group „Die Bewegten“ with their oversized heads fascinate the audience, but also the TU choir, traditional Indian music, music from Latin America and dances from Turkey. After the programme, a DJ will keep the party going. „This event is a MUST for everyone and you shouldn’t miss it. After all, it is not a classic party but MORE! Christmas at TU Dresden is colourful.“ says Juliane Terpe from the Culture Office of the International Office.
Tickets are sold for 2 Euros (start November 15th 2010) in the Culture Office of the International Office on Mommsenstr. 10, Room 213 and in the Stura, Helmholtzstr. 10 and for 3 Euros on-site.

Werbung für ACCESS in China

Prof. Dr.-Ing.
