Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Klaus Thoma ist vom Rektor der TU Dresden, Prof. Hans Müller-Steinhagen, zum Honorarprofessor für das Fachgebiet Kurzzeitdynamik ernannt worden. Prof. Thoma, der seit 1996 Direktor des Fraunhofer Ernst-Mach-Instituts für Kurzzeitdynamik in Freiburg ist, gilt als einer der führenden Entwickler auf dem Gebiet der Strukturdynamik und Werkstoffmodellierung von Verbundwerkstoffen und Keramik und der rechnergestützten Simulation extrem dynamischer Beanspruchung von Werkstoffen und Trag- und Schutzstrukturen.

Mit der TU Dresden verbinden Prof. Thoma verschiedene Forschungsprojekte: Zusammen mit dem Institut für Massivbau werden Forschungsarbeiten für das Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Technologie zum Verhalten von Beton bei hohen Belastungsgeschwindigkeiten durchgeführt, zusammen mit dem Institut für Baustoffe wurden Spallationsexperimente zur Prüfung des Materialverhaltens bei hochdynamischer Beanspruchung von Zylindern aus SHCC mit PVA-Fasern entwickelt und durchgeführt. In Zukunft wird Prof. Thoma sein profundes Wissen auch in Lehrveranstaltungen den Studentinnen und Studenten vermitteln.

    *I received my PhD in the field of Civil Engineering from National University of Malaysia (UKM) in 2015.
    * My PhD research was focused on Decontamination of Residual Soil Polluted by DDT and PCB using Nanoparticles, a geoenvironmental topic.
    * I have exceptional lab skills in microstructural analysis of soil (i.e. XRD, XRF, GC, Zeta sizer, FESEM, FTIR, HPLC, etc) as well as geotechnical tests.
    * I really interested in research related to soil and water treatment, Remediation using nanomaterials, nanofiltration and Bioremediation.
    * I have published several research articles
