24. Juni 2015

An open lecture on „Concrete canvas and its uses“ will be held on Friday, 26 June 2015 from 3pm to 4pm in BEY 67. Speaker is Dr. Ashraf El-Hamalawi, Senior Lecturer in Geomechanics at Loughborough University.

This talk will introduce Concrete Canvas, a flexible concrete-impregnated fabric that has multiple applications. After a brief introduction to what it is made of, and how it is deployed on site, its properties will be described, followed by its key strengths compared to conventional materials. Several practical applications will then be described in which it has already been used, from structural, rail, and geotechnical applications, to municipal and army use, with even some artwork. Finally, its use in shelters for emergency situations will be shown.
